black friday? yeah, right...
Hope everyone had a great turkey day. We certainly did...even if it meant running around to three different homes and trudging through the rain all day. It rained buckets here in New England! Ugh. Oh well, at least it wasn't snow.
In opening up the New Britain Rock Cats kiosk at Enfield Mall today, I found that Black Friday wasn't so black after all. The mall was steady, but not swamped. I got the chance to chat with several Rock Cats fans who were happy to see us again. Nice day all around. I know some malls were wall to wall, and WestFarms Mall was, from what the traffic reporters say, 100% full. People were scrambling across a 6 lane highway to get to the mall when they couldn't find a parking spot there. What losers. Hell, why not just keep your bathrobe and slippers on and do your shopping online? Oh yeah, I forgot, many are convinced by the print and electronic media that it's not safe. I've done tons of shopping online...never once had a problem. Seriously folks, the percentage of people (even taking into account the times the crime isn't publicized) who have trouble purchasing online is less than 1/2 of 1%. That's pretty good odds for online transactions. And it's less stressful and a lot quieter!
I'm intrigued by the whole shop 'till you drop thing on Black Friday. It's not like people don't get deals for the rest of the Christmas season...so why drag your sorry butt out of bed so early after eating so much turkey the day before? I saw several families with kids in tow, dragging huge shopping bags and just generally enjoying being all stressed out. Hooray, I know that's how I want to spend my time on my Friday morning. All I do is watch the store flyers, websites and advertisements and spend my money wisely. It's not terribly hard to do.
Oh, and to those who sat outside Best Buy last night for a stupid PlayStation 3...LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIND SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a waste...people actually camped out in the pouring rain to buy a stupid video game.
Finally, I'm so happy with the way the website has been received. The number of submissions has been incredible, and the good will generated seems to be of a high level. I'm thrilled. Keep up the picture taking, guys! Let's show people just how much fun candlepin bowling is!
