an odd way to wake up in the morning

I do believe I've found quite an odd way to wake up in the morning. It's actually fairly funny, too.

During summer vacation, we tend to sleep a little later...getting up around 8 AM or so. However, my 9-year old doesn't. He's up at 6 AM, every morning (even after a night travelling home from Ware in a thunderstorm...LOL). This morning, he got himself a little bit of a scare.

Right about 7:30 or so, a knock came at the door, sending my poor son running up the stairs to get Daddy out of bed. Upon figuring out I wasn't dead, and stumbling downstairs to get the door, I find two very large guys standing there with some pretty angry looks plastered on their faces, one of which was wearing a Rent-A-Center shirt. Yep, you read that right...Rent-A-Center.

The questions started from the second I tried to say, "Can I help you?"

  • "Are you XXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX?" (name of former owner of our condo)
  • "Then are you XXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX?" (name of roommate of said former owner of our condo)
  • "I need to see ID, please."

And that's when I slammed the door. Yet, our two angry Rent-A-Center lackeys didn't get the message, banging on the door again.

  • "Mr. XXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX? You need to speak to us, now."
  • Me: "Yes, good morning 911 operator...I have two men banging on my door, seemingly from Rent-A-Center, demanding ID and refusing to go away."

And let me tell you, it's nice to live about 90 seconds away from the police department...they were here pretty quickly. It seems that the nice man who used to live here, with his roommate, has stopped paying on his furniture rental...and they're just now catching up to him. Keep in mind, according to the two lackeys who got arrested for breach of peace, the bill is approximately 1 year past due. Gee, that's interesting...we've lived in our present home for just over a year!

So, very early in the morning, I get two rocket scientists arrested for being overly aggressive in collecting a debt. I wonder if they'll be late to work?
