new computer for blogging

One of the perks of teaching in my new school is getting a new laptop computer. I can go throughout the building with it, using it anywhere as we're all set up for wireless internet access, just like my home. Granted, it was sort of difficult to get this little guy going on my own network, but once I succeeded in accessing the 'net from home, it was nice to find that I can blog from the comfort of my couch!

Seeing my friends Donna and Franco on Thursday evening was great! While it was unfortunate that our new fourth couldn't make it, we bowled well and had a fantastic time (as we always do!). Finishing with a 328 series was nice, too. But c'mon Danny J., get me into that Wednesday night league! While I know I can bowl at another center, I just don't want to.

One of the way different parts of teaching Catholic school is the occasional mass that children must help celebrate. Yesterday was the first of those (with the first mass of the year, on opening day, celebrated solely by our parish priest). And while I like to joke that I'm going to know more of the Catholic rites of worship than the UCC's by the end of this assignment, I find that the kids are, at times, uninterested in learning and practicing their faith. More than likely this is due to students' belief that it's "not cool" to go to church. It's odd to have to gently prod some students to actually read the Bible or participate in prayer. But it's certainly something to work on. Be that as it may, my 8th graders know to be very well behaved in church...or risk a lecture from me about proper etiquette while in the house of God. Gee, do you think I'd make a good Roman Catholic? Nah, I'm divorced...the Pope doesn't like that (even if it was justified).

Nevertheless, my son (the trooper that he is) and I are off to the Roll-A-Way youth league this morning. He needs to meet his teammates, you know. Enjoy the day!
