those who know better, don't.
You know, as an adult, one should know better than to sink to his most basic form (hedonistic, animalistic and just plain rude). And seeing a display of animalistic behavior last night, out of someone who has been around for a long time and should know better, only serves to show me my idealistic views aren't close to being reality.
On Thursday nights at Roll-A-Way (a nice 352 night for me!), we have two leagues going. On lanes 1-6, the old Thursday Monson league is in session, while my Roll-A-Way league bowls on 7-14. And on occasion, I like to watch my friend Danny bowl over there. In doing so, I have a tendency to get loud and root for his improvement and pin count. Not a bad thing, mind you...I don't root AGAINST anyone. I pull for my pal.
Be that as it may, one member of that league took exception to that, calling me a "fu**ing a**hole" while accusing me of wearing a "gay, little shirt." I find that interesting for several reasons.
- a**holes don't f**k. I guess one could be an a**hole and still have sex, but it's my understanding that doing it that way could be painful for one or both parties.
- a shirt cannot be "gay." Since a shirt does not have feelings, emotions, sexual preferences, etc., it therefore cannot be classified as homosexual. My shirt last night was a nice shade of red, complete with white embroidery. A tasteful look if I do say so myself.
- and finally, the person who spewed such poetic gems just so happens to be a member of the executive board of the senior pro tour. Therefore, he should know how to behave when he's displeased with someone...and that behavior does not include profanity nor homosexual taunts.
I won't yet reveal his name here. But I'm fairly certain he reads this blog, not to mention thinking he just might be my anonymous detractor as the verbiage he used last night closely matches that of my mysterious friend. However, if he does it again, I will reveal him here.
The behavior I witnessed last night was horribly disappointing. However, it does not make me want to change myself at all. I won't apologize for my personality, nor will I apologize for wanting to enjoy myself and have a good time. I certainly did last night! And the Yankees loss made that even better! But remember, the pen is mightier than the sword. And I just might be inclined to use it.
