one can only take so much, you know...
Even in the best of relationships, one can only take so much. Now don't get me wrong, I love my future wife. But every once in awhile, she honks me off pretty good (and that's not to say I'm completely innocent, either).
Last night, Kathleen had one of her best friends over. This person is a college professor of mathematics, a very smart lady. In fact, I've taken a class under her. However, when she's visiting us, she's a much different person...as is Kathleen.
Generally, the way things work when Kathleen's pal comes over is this way...
- Usually, to start, I'm in the kitchen making dinner and desert.
- Kathleen's friend usually arrives on time, and they both sit in the living room to chat.
- A certain amount of time passes, and the demanding begins with such gems as...
- "I want something to drink."
- "How long before dinner is ready?"
- "You're making brownies for dessert."
- "What have you been doing all day at home?"
- Dinner is served, more disparaging remarks occur.
- Dessert is served, no disparaging remarks are made as dessert is always appreciated.
- The girls retire to the living room and I clean the kitchen.
- More cracks...this time both girls going after me...
And no, I'm not someone who can't take a joke. But damn, some of the gems that were tossed around last night were pretty sparkling, if I do say so myself. Such nice things as, "He didn't do his homework, he's lazy." Now, the homework involved was to get information on how to get a copy of the PRAXIS exam book I need to study for the test...which I did (it's available here). That was followed up with, "we all know this is my house, not yours." (a crack designed to make light of my employment situation). This was among other great comments that really boosted my ego.
Now I know that Kathleen is just showing off...she gets like this when her college professor buddy comes over. And I know that I probably should just ignore it and move on, but after awhile, it just plain sucks. So, I blew up and told her about it. Needless to say, it went over like a lead balloon.
Granted, by this morning, she was apologetic, but I just plain hate it when her professor pal comes over. That person brings out the absolute worst in Kathleen, and it drives me crazy. Someday, I'll train her to NOT do that! LOL
Oh well, I just had to vent. I'm done now. HA!
Gee, we had snow on the ground this morning! And my driveway was a sheet of ice! Yuck! Must mean winter's here. Here's hoping for good vibes from everyone for tomorrow.
