So, now I have an agenda?

Apparently, it's been pointed out by some bowler that I have some sort of an agenda. Wow, that's just amazing! What's amazing you ask? It's amazing that someone actually figured out that I do indeed have an agenda. The problem is, that bowler who pointed out the fact that I have an agenda got the topic of my agenda completely wrong. And that's not too surprising, considering the fact that in today's world, if one does something nice (or positive), one has to go into great detail explaining his/her motivation and inspiration.

When discussing candlepin bowling, I've noticed where many people call it a, "dying game." Essentially, thee naysayers are saying that since there's fewer and fewer houses, the game is slowly wasting away. In fact, many detractors of the game have branded candlepin bowling inferior to those other types of bowling (what are those called, anyway?) that populate the landscape. Check out my division in the Friday evening leagues at AMF Airway; the t*pin bowlers won't go near a candlepin lane (not even to watch the action). But they'll sure spend a lot of money on our raffle tickets! Thanks to them, we'll go to one helluva banquet this year.

However, that fellow who mentioned that I have an agenda is, in fact, completely correct. In fact, my agenda is very simple. Allow me to explain it for you...

Candlepin Gallery is proving, daily I might add, that candlepin bowling is certainly not a dying sport. The action that takes place on a daily/nightly basis in houses throughout the northeast is, in my opinion, fierce, friendly and of a very high level. The youth leagues in many houses are vibrant and producing some very fine bowlers for the next generation. Houses have upgraded offerings, providing patrons and league bowlers with some nice creature comforts designed to make bowlers far more comfortable than ever (and since the no smoking laws have passed, bowling is far more healthy, too). Oh, and with the level of activity on http://www.candlepingallery.com (thousands of individual visitors a day), the number of people seeking information and following the sport is significant.

Therefore, my agenda is simple...to allow people to understand that candlepin bowling is fun and inexpensive. It's a family game that anyone can play. And my work shows a varied clientele at many bowling centers. That's my agenda--dispelling notions.

And you know what? It's working. We're getting the word out about candlepin! So stop playing, "Chicken Little" and help out! Spread the word about candlepin bowling. Get your house involved with us. Gee, the price is right; it's free.
