winning...teaching...celebrating and finally being very happy again

A nice win by the Rock Cats last night. The bats really woke up against Portland and one of the Red Sox' biggest prospects in RHP Justin Masterson. The Sox are very high on this kid, but he's only 4-3 with a 4.34 ERA in the EL. However, he is 12-8 this year between A & AA (similar ERA). But he gives up approximately 1 hit per inning, which--if I were Theo--I'd be nervous about. You can't do that and dominate/compete in the AL.

We celebrated my win last night, too (woohoo, employment!). Once the news made it around the park that I had made it in the house, I was overwhelmed. The support and happiness I felt last night, from the staff and the fans, was incredible. Happily, I also got to see my pal John Holt from Candlepin Challenge, too! For those who don't know, John can also be found on WFSB in Hartford, doing a right fine sports segment for their news show. I'm proud to count him as a friend.

BTW...thanks for the well wishes, John--and tell your cameraman I appreciated the congratulations, too. He seemed like a nice fellow.

One of the things that a member of the front office told me last night sort of struck me (for lack of better word). My Rock Cats colleague (who'll remain nameless--I know the GM likes to read here...hello, JW) told me that many of them have been concerned about my employment search, and the news was a lift for them. That piece of information surprised me. I mean, hey...they have a job to do. But they're still concerned about me? Wow. It did give me a whole new perspective on the "Rock Cats Family." Granted, we disagree and fight like siblings at times, but we are a family. Especially, for me, my patrons in the wheelchair access row. They're my guys and gals...and I love to have them around. While we all complain about this, that or the other, I'm sure most of us--God willing--will return in April (April 2, 2008 to be exact)--for next season.

Nevertheless, it's off to celebrate Kathleen's birthday today. I won't tell you how old she is...she may be embarrassed. Let's just say she'll be ending a decade in her life today. Hee hee!

Happy Labor Day everyone!
