Finally, a break!

Well, I finally got a break yesterday. And if you're wondering, I didn't have my arm broken for me.

Candlepin's favorite minor league baseball team (okay, well...my favorite minor league baseball team), the New Britain Rock Cats, took two from the Binghamton Mets. This puts the Rock Cats record at 10-10. While this is a great morale boost for all of us, Trenton is coming to town tonight. The Thunder, a New York Yankees affiliate, have a record of 19-3. The good news is that Trenton had an 11-game win streak snapped last night, and they're going to lose Chase Wright (2-0, 0.90) to a call-up (presumably to AAA Scranton). That bodes well; Trenton needs to find a starter on short notice for tonight and we've got 'em at home--with a crowd of 7,200 expected. Boy, do I hope we pull off a win!

At last, an interview! A school in my future bride's town wants to talk to me next week. The position, grade 5, is right up my alley. Therefore, I need you guys to start sending the good vibes down to CT again. I'd like to nail this job and be able to really enjoy my summer. It's a struggle for a teacher who is looking for a job in the good weather, and I'm dying to NOT be on that boat again.

It's also possible that I will be granted an interview in another town, Willington, CT. Willington is a very small town, very "New England" in it's rural nature. If that happens, I'd love it. Truly, I'm through with "city life" and all that an urban living center has to offer. Since moving out of the Hartford-metro area, we've been very happy with our new, slower and quieter lifestyle. And giving it up now is something Kathleen and I absolutely refuse to do. In fact, Kathleen's sister and her husband have expressed their envy at our new hometown, saying they had a chance to buy a home here, too. And they passed it up! It's like the song goes...

We just need a little earth to stand on
Plant our hearts on solid ground
Turn the lights out on this city
And wake up in a new hometown
We'll stand out in our front yard
Where we can finally breathe
If we find a little earth to stand on
Baby you and me

Airway's banquet is tonight. Should be a nice evening. I'll collect a few bucks for high average (103) in my class. And the Roll-A-Way summer league starts Thursday the 10th. It's a full house, 14 teams! Who says candlepin is dying? When summer leagues are filled up like this, there's no telling me candlepin is dying. What's dying are the houses that haven't been kept up (with Monson the exception).

Enjoy the sun this weekend!!!
