thoughts on the fact that summer ends (for me) today

Today is my final day of summer freedom.  The summer begins to wind down. The days get shorter. The evenings get cooler. Labor Day plans begin to be discussed. The final bag of charcoal is purchased for the grill. Baseball pennant drives begin in earnest. No more lazy days without a schedule or places to be; no more abundant sunshine and warm temperatures; no more staying up late to play at one of the resorts here in CT.  After today, it's pencils, books, plans, tests, quizzes and more. I'm not necessarily upset by that, but I'm surprised at how the summer went by in such a quick blink. Then again, we did get married, take three trips, begin (albeit sputteringly) our search for a home of our own, etc.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised that summer has finally left the building.

Bowling season ramps up next week, and with it is the return to my usual Wednesday/Thursday routine, which is really a nice way to break up the week.  Thankfully, this year will be slightly different now that my lovely wife has obtained her master's degree.  She'll have the time to tag along and yell at me when I miss all the easy spares I usually miss.  Like I always say, "if I could make and fill my spares, I'd be dangerous out there."  LOL  It'll be nice to have a good looking fan club behind me this year, which will hopefully increase my pin count.  At the very least, she'll give me something easy on the eyes to look at between halves.

Look for the Candlepin Challenge schedule to be posted very soon.  The first taping should be sometime in late September/early October.  I've noticed that the initial outcry from those who thought CN8 was completely leaving the lower tier of Comcast cable has been met with that channel staying put (at least on my cable).  I catch the show onDemand anyway.  Nonetheless, one can apparently watch the show online (although it's balky at best).  However--no results will be posted here prematurely; that wouldn't be the right thing to do.

Happily, Wright Brothers Sports Center is reopening as Union Street Lanes on September 10. You can see pictures of the new signage at CG.  Go look it up!  More good news for candlepin, that's for sure.

Finally, good luck to all of my pals who begin bowling in the coming few days.  Hit 'em hard and have a great season!  I'll be watching the numbers roll in!
